Methacrylic Acid Copolymer E-100 is a cationic substance produced by the copolymerization of two or more different monomers. It is based on dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, butylmethacrylate, and methyl methacrylate within a ratio of 2:1:1. The monomers present are distributed randomly along the chain structure. The molar mass of this compound is approximately equals to 47000 grams per mol calculated as per the size-exclusion chromatography method. Methacrylic Acid Copolymer E-100 appears as a colourless to white to tinged yellow coloured fine granules having a characteristic amine-like odour. It is insoluble in water and petroleum ether but can be easily dissolved in solvents like isopropyl, alcohol, acetone, methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate to give clear to slightly cloudy solutions.
